David Griesel

David Griesel was born December 16, 1919 in Portland Oregon to Henry and Mabel 
Griesel. He attended the University of Southern California where he earned a 
Bachelors of Science and was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. He later 
attended Fresno State University, earning his Masters in Business. After 
graduation from USC in 1950, David married Donna Jean Bransby and moved to 
Bakersfield where they raised three children. David co-founded B.C. 
Laboratories and later worked as a stockbroker with Investors Diversified 
Services. David finished his career teaching Business at Vista High School in 
Bakersfield. David was an active member in The Knights of the Round Table, The 
Lions Club, and American Ex-Prisoners of War Cessna Sergeant Chapter. During 
WWII, David flew Ball Turret Gunner position in his B-17 Flying Fortress 
(nicknamed Hot-To-Go by the crew). He was a member of the 96th Bomb Group and 
was shot down over occupied Holland on November 11, 1944. He was held at 
Stalag Luft #4 and put on a forced march into the heart of Germany as the war 
ended. The march lasted 88 days and cost the lives of many of his buddies. He 
was released May 2, 1945 and returned to the U.S. on June 20, 1945. David is 
survived by his older sister, Janie; his three children, Cameron, Gordon, and 
John; his granddaughter, Alexis; his girlfriend, Madeline; and his ex-wife, 
Donna Jean. An Honor Guard Service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on 
the Hill Of Valor at 11:00 on the 25th of February. In lieu of flowers, please 
send a donation to the Bakersfield SPCA, 3000 Gibson, Bakersfield, CA 93308.
