He was the fourth of five children. He was predeceased by both parents and brothers, Belton Griffin, M.D. of Houston, TX, Bruce Griffin of Taft, Howard Griffin of Birmingham, AL and his sister, Marie. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Griffin; his sons, Eric Griffin of San Diego and Roark Griffin and his wife, Brandy of Carlsbad. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Philip Fullington and Kathryn Vossen of Taft and Robert Fullington, D.V.M. of Studio City. In addition, he leaves behind four grandsons, Chase and Curtis Griffin and Michael and Matthew Vossen. Dr. Griffin practiced medicine in Taft from 1954 until he retired at the end of 2001. He received his education in Alabama, entered the U.S. Navy and after he completed his military duties, he went to the University of Alabama and the Medical College of Alabama receiving his M.D. degree to practice medicine in Alabama. He always maintained this license, however, he completed his internship at L.A. County General Hospital and was licensed to practice medicine in California as well. He was active in his community. He was President of the Little League, was a member of the Taft Rotary Club and a member of the Board of Directors at West Side District Hospital. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the California Medical Association, American Academy of Family Practitioners, American Academy of Abdominal Surgeons and the Kern County Medical Society. When he could find time to get away from his practice, which in addition to general practice also included surgery, obstetrics and for many years anesthesia, he enjoyed spending time with his family traveling, water sports and especially skiing at many ski resorts. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held privately on Monday, September 12, 2005, and a memorial for all of his friends and patients will be held at St. Marys Hall, 110 E. Woodrow St., in Taft, at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 17, 2005. There will be a buffet luncheon for all who come to celebrate the life of Arthur Griffin, M.D. Please make donations to the American Diabetes Association, the Alzheimers Disease Foundation or Optimal Hospice.
