As a boy he loved living and working on the ranch with his parents and siblings. He met his wife, Margaret, of 44 years, at the library hangout; it was Love at first sight. His career was in construction. On June 12, 1967, he lost both legs above the knee due to a car accident. His strong will kept him working. He was a construction estimator. He worked in Tehachapi, Fresno then settled in Bakersfield in 1980. He gave his life to the Lord in 1978. His hearts desire was to share the Word & Love of God to everyone he came in contact with. He was a mentor for boys at Camp Owens; Usher, Deacon and Sunday school teacher for Flame of Fire Outreach, bible studies. He was up to date with politics and Christian values. When he attended Bakersfield College he was a tutor, volunteered at C.L.U.B. M.E.D. then became president; Deans List 1997-1998. He rode the GET Bus and had a ministry sharing Jesus with the other passengers. In Sept. 2002 he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He continued to teach and preach Jesus Christ. He also was an avid writer of multiple subject compositions. He will be remembered by all who ever met him. His indelible impression and witness for Jesus Christ will forever be in our hearts. Joaquin loved his family. His parents, Jesus C. and Rita Grijalva and his sister, Amelina Salas, precede him in death. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, Jack, Bob and Michele, Johnny and Rita, Gary and Patsy and his only daughter, Gale and Ken Mitchell; grandchildren, Joshua, Regina, Alex, Taylor, Elijah, Jena, Chloe, Ana, Jonathan, Vince, Katrina; brothers, Avelardo Fimbres of Beaumont, CA; Adalberto Fimbres of Yolo, CA; Jesus Maria C. Grijalva Jr. of Anaheim, CA; sisters, Lilly Altamirano and Aida Manzanedo of Los Banos, CA; Audelia Fimbres of Woodland, CA; Jessie G. Gutierrez of Brawley, CA; Gloria G. Sotelo of San Joaquin, CA; Esperanza Maya of Hanford, CA; Ofelia G. Torres of El Centro, CA; along with his many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Visitation begins Friday, December 9th, from 3-6 p.m., with a wake service at 6 p.m. A chapel service will be held Saturday, December 10th, at 10:00 a.m., with interment to follow. Both days at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., Bakersfield, CA 93306, 661-366-5766.
