Teresa Unzueta Garcia
March 17, 1938 – July 12, 2005

Rosary was recited on Thursday, July 14 at St. Malachy Catholic Church with 
Mass of the Christian Burial following on Friday, July 15, for longtime 
Tehachapi resident, Teresa Unzueta Garcia, 67, who passed away at her home on 
July 12.

Born in Los Corrales, Durango, Mexico on March 17, 1938, Teresa moved to 
Tehachapi in 1955. She married her husband of 48 years, Modesto S. Garcia, on 
Oct. 13, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nev. 

As a young woman, Teresa was a member of the Tehachapi women’s volleyball 
team, earning numerous trophies. Her greatest joy was being able to love and 
care for her grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, especially for her family. 

Teresea loved to play bingo, enjoyed shopping and traveling to Las Vegas and 
Laughlin to play the slot machines. She was a member of Club Ideal, a Mexican-
American charitable organization, and the Tehachapi Moose Lodge. As a cancer 
survivor, Teresa demonstrated courage and compassion to all who knew her. She 
will be greatly missed.

Teresa is survived by her husband, Modesto Garcia; son, Cesar Garcia and his 
wife Carmen; and daughter, Diana Gonzalez and her husband Tomas, all of 
Tehachapi; grandchildren Tony Gonzalez, David Gonzalez, Cesar Garcia Jr. and 
Valeria Garcia; numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren and cousins; and many 
wonderful friends.

Father Joel Davadilla officiated at the service. Interment followed at the 
Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Westside. Wood Family Funeral service handled the 
arrangements.
