Charlie was born in Visalia, California to Tony and Clemencia Garcia, and lived there until moving with his family to Bakersfield in 1957. He attended local elementary and Jr. High schools, and graduated from BHS in 1965. He attended B.C. where he met his soul-mate Patty DeMarais in a piano class. He graduated from B.C. in 1967 and worked for the Kern High School District as a photographer. He and Patty were married November 16, 1968 and were happily married for 36 and a half years. After just 2 years of martial arts training, he achieved his black belt in Goju in 1974. He taught defensive arts for 14 years reaching the rank of third degree black belt. Through the years, Charlie attended various classes and earned his standard designated teaching credential. He taught photography at Foothill High School for three years and Graphic Arts at the Regional Occupational Center for 20 years. In June of 2005 he retired from the Kern High School District after 37 years. In April of 1978 he made the most important decision of his life by accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He and his family started attending Valley Bible Fellowship in April of 1983. Serving God became his life passion and his love of the Lord affected many people. Charlie was a natural teacher and was constantly instructing everyone he came in contact with how to live a Godly life. Known as Pastor Charlie, he served the Lord as an elder, board member and prophet. He is survived by his wife, Patty; son, Chuck and daughter-in-law, Nancy; daughter, Karen; son, Scott and daughter-in- law, Jennifer; grandchildren, Joshua, Gabriel, and baby due in August; niece, Dee Olson; brother, Tony and sister-in-law Helen; nephew Anthony. He is preceded in death by his parents Tony and Clemencia Garcia. Charlies Celebration of Life service will be held at Valley Bible Fellowship, 2300 E. Brundage Lane, this Saturday, August 6th, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Valley Bible Fellowship Royal Rangers program.
