Jack and Ruth Winslow. He attended local schools and graduated from East Bakersfield High in 1956, where he played football, basketball and was a championship boxer. He later graduated from Bakersfield College and the University of San Francisco. In 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Ringo, and they loved each other dearly until her passing in 1991. Over the next several years he worked for Manuel Valdez Masonry and as a barber for his father-in-law, Woody Ringo, as well as owning his own shop. Later he was a salesman for Dale Brothers Coffee. In 1972 he and his family moved to Wofford Heights and he began his career with the Kern County Probation Dept. at Camp Owen. For the next 23 years he worked as a counselor, probation officer, institution supervisor and director with various assignments throughout the department. He retired in 1994. Ernie enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting, but loved motorcycle racing best. He raced T.T. Motorcycles in the 1960s and was a member of the Sprockets Motorcycle Club. He was also an integral part of the racing efforts of his sons and grandson and spent countless weekends traveling around the country to various races. After Phyllis died, Ernie was lucky enough to find the second love of his life, Jo Harris. They were married on Valentines Day in 1997. He was a member of the Dam Dancers Square Dance Club, the Kern Valley Wagoneers RV Club, The Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and Elks Lodge. His favorite place to camp was at Glass Creek in the Sierras north of Mammoth Lakes. He passed away at his home in Squirrel Valley with his wife, Jo, and his son, Randy at his side after a long and tiring battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was preceded in death by his father, A.T. Winslow, his first wife, Phyllis, and his sister, Gail Voss. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Winslow of Bakersfield; wife, Yolanda Jo Winslow of Squirrel Valley; son, Randy and daughter-in-law, Janna Winslow of Wofford Heights; son, Tim Winslow of Bakersfield and grandsons, Ryan Winslow of Smith River, CA, Scott Winslow of Wofford Heights and Tyler Winslow of Medford, Oregon; stepson, Gary Kelly and wife, Dezerie of Bakersfield; stepdaughters, Sharon Scott and husband, Michael; Jeannie Rich and husband, James and stepgrandsons, Scott Obert, Steven Obert; stepgranddaughters, Joanne McCain, Jamie McCain, Brooke Kelly, Aubrianna Kelly and Lauren Kelly and great-granddaughter, Ashlynd Wilson all of Bakersfield. He will be missed most of all for his great sense of humor and love for his family and numerous friends. A celebration of his life will be held at the home of his son, Randy Winslow on Saturday, August 7, at 2:00 p.m., at 1043 Evans Rd. in Wofford Heights.
