Thompson, Jr. Feb. 21, 1923 Aug. 2, 2004 Graveside services for Robert Hopson Thompson, Jr. will be held on Friday morning August 6, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery (River Blvd.). Pastor Doug Davis of Calvary Bible Church will officiate. Bob was born on February 21, 1923, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and he passed away on August 2, 2004 in Bakersfield, with his wife by his side. Robert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosemarie Thompson; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Nancy Thompson; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard and Susan Thompson; sister-in-law, Jeane Thompson; grandson, Daniel Thompson; granddaughters, Rachel and Sarah Thompson and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob was a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather and he dearly loved his family. He enjoyed sports especially baseball and basketball and he coached JBA baseball. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, reading and he was a member of a bowling league. He served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Decorated Veteran and a member of the American Legion. Robert had a green thumb and he always had a garden.
