Pearman October 12, 1951 August 2, 2004 Marilyn I. Pearman died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident while visiting relatives with her mother in Stanbury, Missouri on Monday, August 2, 2004. Marilyn was born in Bakersfield, California in 1951. She was the beloved daughter of Berniece and Don Pearman. Her father predeceased her nine years ago. Marilyn leaves behind her beloved life partner, Nancy Grunnet. She will also be missed by her family, which includes her mother, Bernice; sister, Sandra and brother-in-law, Duane Crowley; brother, Steven and sister- in-law, Linda Pearman. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Carolyn and Ron Bellamy, Cathleen and Sean Slack, Donovan and Jessica Crowley and Nathan and Laurie Pearman, as well as John and Nancy Grunnet, and Paul, Brandy and Amy Baptiste. Marilyn will also be missed by her lifelong friend, Annette Parsons, a friend since childhood, as well as many, many other friends and colleagues. Marilyn attended Bakersfield High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She lived in Humbolt County and San Diego before settling in Sacramento in the early 1980s. There she held several positions in state service, serving as the Statewide Womens Program Manager for the State Personnel Board, as a Manager of the California Department of Health Services Licensing and Certification Program, and, in the late 1990s, as an Assistant Director at The Department of Corrections. After retiring on Halloween 2003, she pursued her lifelong passion for bats dedicating her time and energy to bat conservation and rehabilitation. She conducted numerous lectures for children and adults on the benefits of bats and visited some of the largest bat colonies in the U.S. She worked 24-7-365 rescuing injured or trapped bats and caring for them until they could be released. She was a certified bat rehabilitator, a member of Bat Conservation International, as well as a co-founder of the California Native Bat Conservancy along with Dharma Webber. There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, August 7, at 7:00 p.m., at The Spiritual Life Center, 2331 K Street, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to The California Native Bat Conservancy, 3461 Mining Brook Road, Placerville, CA 95667.
