He was the younger brother of Irva Dalley Painter and Frank Verl Dalley. Mr. Dalley, always known as Jim ,lost his mother as a youngster and was raised by his father on a ranch, tending and herding sheep. These early experiences fostered a lifelong love of nature and simple, rural life. In his teens, Jim moved to Bakersfield and, after a brief stint in the California Conservation Corps, he met and married Jeanne Traill, his adored wife of 63 years. At the same time, Jim began an illustrious career with the Bakersfield Police Department. In this profession he took enormous pride , holding many positions in the force, and retiring with the rank of Captain. After retirement, Jim pursued a second career with the Bakersfield Sign Company, another job which delighted him. Jim was a man of many passions and interests. In addition to his two careers, he was a member of the Masonic Order, advancing through the ranks to serve as Grand Master. Lifelong hobbies included fishing and hunting, after a introduction to the sport from his son, became an avid golfer. Jim was probably most excited about receiving his private pilots license, and he and Jeanne had many flying adventures. He often expressed gratitude for the full and interesting life he had lived. Jim was a wonderful friend and colleague to many, but will be most remembered for his unswerving loyalty and dedication to his family. He was survived by his wife, Jeanne Dalley; his children Robin Dalley, James B. Dalley and his wife Anne, and the late Alex Dalley Cobb. Grandchildren include Richard Turner, Erin Shaves, Caitilan and Brendan Turner, Chris, Jason, and Brian Dalley, Victor Wilson, Cody Cobb, and the late Gabriel Turner. Great- grandchildren are Daniel Stroud, Richard J. Turner and Tiffani Bolton. His niece is Darlene Pankey. All of us who knew and loved Jim were blesses by his earthly life and his lessons of kindness, courage, perseverance, integrity, trust and gentle love. We miss him so much, but we are comforted by knowing that he is resting in eternal peace. The family wishes to express special thanks to Fidelia Galarza and Rosa Cordero for their loving and devoted care of Jim in his last years. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Doughty- Calhoun-OMeara Funeral Directors, 1100 Truxtun Avenue.
