Tognini Services: Tues., Aug. 10, 10 a.m. Those that wish to remember and pay their last respects to Arthur F. Tognini are invited to attend his services, Tuesday, August 10, at 10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. Arthur Tognini was born February 22, 1913 in Oakland, CA, son of Cesare and Linda Tognini who came to America from Italy, Providence of Lombardy in 1912. Arthur attended Laurel and Allendale Grammar School, Alexander Junior High School, Roosevelt and Oakland High School. He attended University of California Pharmacy School and is a life member of the Alumni Association. He became a licensed pharmacist in 1933 and worked in the Bay area for a few years. In 1935 he married the former Patricia Sparovich of Oakland, CA. Arthur and Patricia became residents of Bakersfield in 1936 and both worked for the Save- More Drug Store on 19th Street, which they purchased in 1937 and operted as the A & S Drugs until 1940. They began thinking of a store in the Brundage area and in a few months opened the Brundage Pharmacy (Grand Opening was April 11, 1939). Arthur and Patricia have a daughter, Sandra Lee Bays, and a grandson, James Bays. Arthur organized the Kern County Pharmacist Association in 1936 and was Secretary for 17 years and President four times. President Delta Sigma Fraternity; member of the Board of Directors Southern California Pharmacy Association for 22 years and became President in 1956. He is one of the original seven trustees of the Southern California Pharmacy Association Trust; President of Kern County Freeholders Committee for Better Government for 20 years; president of the Mens Bowling Association of Bakersfield; Charter President of Junior Bowlers Association; Chairman of the Convention Bureau of Bakersfield; First Chairman of Metropolitan Dinner Club of Bakersfield; Honorary Phi-Delta-Chi-Alpha Psi; Charter University of Pacific of Stockton, CA; Charter Q.S.A.D. Pharmacy Support Group, U.S.C. Pharmacy School of Los Angeles, CA; Affiliate member of American Medical Association. Honorary since 1965. Recipient, Award of Merit from Kern County Supervisors 1957; recipient, Man of the Year Award from Kern County Pharmacy Association; President, Italian Heritage, Dante Association; recipient, Man of the Year Award, Columbian Award from Italian Heritage, Dante Association and served 30 years as Chairman of nominating committee; received Cavalieri Award from Republic of Italy 1974; recipient of Free Enterprise Award from American Americanism League; recipient of Merit Award from Rotary Club of Bakersfield East; Chairman, American Revolution Bi-Centennial Committee of Kern County; Chairman of Kern County Heritage Commission, 1977 to present; United States Constitution Commission of Kern County Chairman; Founder and Chairman of the Board of Kern County Liberty Bell and presented it to Kern County on July 4, 1976. Over 50 years of community service to Fraternal, professional and social affiliation: Founded Junior Golf Association as Director of Stockdale Country Club in 1951; Life member of the American Pharmaceutical Association; National Association of Retail Druggists; California Pharmacists Association; Kern County Pharmacist Association; Pharmacy Institute of California; Native Sons of Golden West; Elks Lodge #266; Eagles Club #93 (70 Years in 2000); United Commercial Travelers; Italian Heritage, Dante Association; American Institute of Pharmacy; American-Slavonic Club in Delano (Charter Member); Rotary Club of Bakersfield (Honorary Member); Road Runner, Cal State Bakersfield; Public Relations Chairman, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital Foundation; 60 Plus Club, Cal State Bakersfield; Masonic Affiliations: Bakersfield Lodge #224, Life Member; Knight Templar #39; 32nd Degree Scottish Rite; Eastern Star, Oildale Chapter; Kern County Shrine Club; Committeeman, Kern County Crippled Children Hospital, Shrine Club; Member of Saint Peters Orthodox Church in Fresno, CA; 1995 received 50-year Golden Member Award, Bakersfield Blue Lodge #224; 1996 50-year Member, Knight Templar #39; 50-year member, Scottish Rite; 50-year Member, Al Malaikah Temple; 50-year Member, Kern County Shrine Club; 70-year Member of Demolay. Arthur is remembered and loved by his wife, Patricia; his daughter, Sandra Bays; and his grandson, James Bays. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and a community that he loved and served so well.
