Family lived in Shafter since 1921. Predeceased by husband, Gideon Rub; sisters, Erma, Ethel Knittel, Mable Jackson and brothers, Leo and Albert Suckut. She was owner of Amandas Café in Shafter serving author John Steinbeck many times. After moving to New Cuyama with her former husband, Tommy Thompson, she was a cook at New Cuyama School. Amanda loved family gatherings and jokes told by her nieces and nephews. Amanda is survived by her daughter, Kathe Thompson; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Margaret Suckut; nieces and nephews, Leasa and Chuck Sukut, Kelly Clanton, Curtis Suckut, Rod, Wayne and Dennis Knittel. Special thanks to Margaret Suckut and Kelly Clanton and Evergreen-Arvin for their care. Graveside will be Wednesday, August 11, at 9:00 a.m. at Shafter Cemetery.
