Davis-Neal March 28, 1946 August 11, 2004 Services will be held for JoAnn Elizabeth Davis-Neal, 58, at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., Monday, August 16, 2004, at 10 a.m., with graveside services to follow. Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial at the Eagles Lodge, 1718 17th St., following graveside services. JoAnn passed away August 11, 2004 peacefully with her family at her side. JoAnn was born on March 28, 1946, in Bakersfield and has resided here most of her life. She was preceded in death by her first husband and friend of 29 years, Jim Davis; brother, Frankie James; and granddaughter, Whitney. She is survived by her parents, Francis and Helen Cashero; husband, Art Neal; children, Frank, Richard and Angela Davis; grandchildren, Cameron, Aaron, Marissa and Christian; brother, William Stanton; sister, Debbie Wilburn; relatives and close friends too numerous to mention. JoAnn loved entertaining and her home was always open, especially on Thursday nights for drinks and dominoes. On Sunday afternoon there was always a pot of spaghetti sauce in case anyone stopped by. She always had the entire family and friends over for Thanksgiving dinner and she was especially fond of Christmas. She attended the Highland Church of Christ for many years and most recently the Westside Church of Christ. JoAnn worked for Kern County Dept. of Human Services for over 30 years, where she held numerous positions and was a Program Director at the time of her death. She enjoyed traveling to Sacramento, where she was instrumental in the development and implementation of many Statewide Automation Projects. JoAnn could be found at least once a week enjoying lunch with her co-workers at one of the local Mexican restaurants. After many years of dedication to her work, JoAnn was looking forward to her retirement. She met her husband, Art, at the Bakersfield Eagles Lodge, where both had been members for many years. All of their friends knew they were meant for each other and once they figured it out for themselves, they were inseparable. JoAnn and Art had the storybook wedding attended by hundreds of guests, in the backyard of close friends, Tom and Melinda Shipley. JoAnn and Art were able to do some brief traveling on a cruise for their honeymoon accompanied by 60 of their closest friends and family and a trip to Washington to meet Arts daughter, Cassie and her children. They planned to travel quite a bit, but JoAnns sudden illness changed those plans. When JoAnn became ill, Art tended to all of her needs and for this she and the rest of her family have been blessed. In the last few days of her life, Art along with her daughter, Angela, were constantly at her side, never leaving her alone for a moment. Pallbearers will be co-workers and friends, Anthony Merante, Steve Pruitt, Ron Nakagawa, Larry Wiedeman, Delfino Neira and R.J. Salton. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to the Eagles Aerie 93 Cancer Fund, 1718 17th St., 93301, in honor of JoAnn Neal.
