Marian was the only child of Charles and Anna (Frerk) Sweeney, born October 1, 1921 in Primghar, Iowa. She attended school there and then moved to Paullina, Iowa with her parents. She attended the Sioux City Beauty Academy and became a licensed cosmetologist, working in Paullina for several years. On February 10, 1946 she was united in marriage to Herbert Banks and continued living in Paullina until 1956 when they moved to Phoenix, Arizona. In 1959 they moved to Inglewood, CA and then moved to Bakersfield in January of 1963. Marian was a member of the First Congregational Church and sang in the choir for nearly 30 years. She also belonged to the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Survivors include her husband, Herbert S. Banks; one son, Randy Banks; two grand-daughters, Kristi and Kari Banks and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund of the First Congregational Church or the American Lung Association.
