Jennie was born on June 6, 1925 in Torreon Choah, Mexico to Pascual and Francisca Rocha and came to Bakersfield, Ca with her parents when she was just 25 days old. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, Pascual and Francisca Rocha; husband, Sam Al Garcia; brothers, Casi, Paul and Manuel Rocha; sister, Lorenza Reyes. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Celia Herrera; son, Martin Calistro; daughter, Mary Jo Whitten; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jim Cardoza; daughter, Sister Esther Garcia, Franciscan Sister of Atonement, Boston, MA; sister and brother-in-law, Nellie and Juan Sosa; sister, Clara Calistro. She also leaves 8 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren. Jennie worked many years at the election polls and volunteered many hours for the KC Food Bank and BFMC. She was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Frank Alviso, Frank Herrera, Jr., Steven Herrera, JJ Cardoza, nephews, Frank and Michael Calistro. Honorary pallbearers, grandson, Joel Cardoza and son, Martin Calistro. Special thanks to Sarah Calistro for the loving care she provided our mom through her illness, Optimal Hospice especially Sharon Glass and Lori Smith for their care and support and the friends and family who visited with Jennie prior to her death and Rachel, the pharmacist, from Longs Drugs. Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, August 17, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hopson-Anspach family Mortuary-Bakersfield. Catholic Funeral Rites will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Francis Church. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery.
