He lost a long fight from complications of cancer on August 11, 2004, in Bakersfield. Earl married Kay Kinneberg on August 18, 1950, in a dual ceremony with his brother, Thomas. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps (1943-45) and saw duty in the Western Pacific. Earl was a workaholic, setting a positive work ethic for his progeny, holding down three jobs for most of his working life. He graduated from University of California at Santa Barbara and taught Industrial Arts in the Kern County school system from 1950 until 1999. He was a Teacher Hall of Fame recipient in 1996. He worked at Sears in Bakersfield as a hardware specialist during non-teaching times from 1951 until 2002. Earl started Candid Wedding Photography in 1974, working during his off hours. During one year he photographed ninety-nine weddings. Earl came to have a personal relationship with Christ after attending a Billy Graham Crusade in Fresno in 1962. Earl was a devout Christian and a member of the Olive Drive Church. He was an honest, hardworking gentleman and an unforgettable example to those who love him and mourn his passing. Earl is survived by his wife; his three children, Earl Louis Catlett, III, Jan Susan Perkins, and Susan Lynn Catlett; his granddaughter, Kimberly Green and husband, Randy; and his grandson, Jason Perkins and wife, Kara, all of Bakersfield. His brother, Richard Ezra Catlett of Port Angeles, Washington, also survives him. His brother, Thomas Sentell Catlett preceded him in death. Viewing will be held Thursday, August 19, 9:00-10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn SW, followed with a Life Celebration also being held Thursday, August 19, 12 Noon at Olive Drive Church.
