Gregory, D.D.S. April 9, 1913 August 16, 2004 Services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., on August 19, 2004, 9:00 a.m. for Jessie F. Gregory who passed away on August 19, 2004. Jessie was born in Port Lavaca, Texas, to Jesse and Myrtle Finster and was raised there until 1924 when the family moved to Taft. She met and married John Francis Gregory, a building contractor, in 1931. With his encouragement she decided to further her education and chose the profession of Dentistry. After attending the College of Physicians of Surgeons (now the University of Pacific) in San Francisco and received her B.S. & D.D.S. degree in 1937. She practiced in Taft for 10 years. With the desire to specialize in Dentistry she attended USC and received her Master of Dental Surgeon in 1953 and became one of the first women Orthodontists in our state. Dr. Gregory moved to Bakersfield with her family in 1952. Her husband built her a 4-suite dental building and her practice of Orthodontics began to prosper. Her profession had spanned a period of 49 years when she retired in 1986. Her love and caring for her patients, family and friends will never be forgotten. She was a member of the Kern County Dental Association. In 1986 she was awarded with an Honorary Lifetime Presidency Award by the Board of Directors of the KCDS. She was a Lifetime member of the American Dental Assoc., California Dental Assoc. and Kern County Dental Assoc. and many, many more. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse & Mrytle Finster and her husband John Francis Gregory of 35 who passed away in 1966. Jessie is survived by her son, John and wife, Diane; daughter, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Jessica Stancliff, Johnny Gregory and wife, Elaine, Jacqueline DiMari and husband, Marco; and 2 great-grandchildren; her loving sister and brother, Susie Dragoo and Jay Finster and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Johnny Gregory, Dennis Needham, Doug Needham, Bob Bimat, Jack Jazsen and Mike Keate. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Parkview Emmanuel, Odyssey Hospice, Dr. Bhangoo, Dr. Baker, Dr. Phillips, Alternative Care and Jessies friend and caregiver, Linda Nickell. In lieu of flowers the family would request that any donations be made to the Kern County Dental Society Scholarship Fund, 1701 Westwind Dr. Ste. 109, 93301, or a charity of your choice.
