Genevieve M. Rauterkus, 96, a longtime resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa, 
passed away August 13, 2004 in Bakersfield. 

Genevieve was born August 10, 1908, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Harry and 
Leona (Gall) Krause. She graduated from St. Francis High School in Co. Bluffs, 
class of 1926 and Creighton University School of Pharmacy in 1929. Genevieve 
was a Pharmacist at Mercy Hospital and continued at Clark Drug Co. Her 
Pharmacy career was from 1929 1979. She was a member of St. Peters Church and 
St. Anns Altar & Rosary Society. Genevieve was the first Registered Pharmacist 
at Mercy Hospital in Concil Bluffs and was the first female Registered 
Pharmacist in the state of Iowa. In 1979 she received a Certificare from the 
Governor of Iowa in honor of her 50th anniversary as a Pharmacist.

Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband, Leo Rauterkus in 1965; her 
brother, Ferdinand A. Krause in 1989 and is survived by her son, Tom Rauterkus 
of Bakersfield, CA; 3 grandchildren, Lynn Marks and Traci Hildebrand both of 
Bakersfield and Tom Rauterkus of Corona, CA; 4 great-grandchildren.

Rosary Recitation Thursday, 6:30 p.m. at Cutler-ONeill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral 
Home. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 20, 10:00 a.m., at St. Peters 
Church. Rev. Chuck Kottas officiating. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery 
in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Rembrances may be made to the American Heart 
Association.
