Services: Sat., Aug. 21, 11 a.m. 



Services will be held Saturday, August 21, for Glen J. Wallis, 79, who passed 
away August 16, 2004. Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. at Hillcrest 
Memorial Park, and at 11 a.m. a memorial service will be held at Cornerstone 
Church, located at Calloway Drive and Meacham Road. Pastor Tem Mattox will 
officiate.

Glen was born May 8, 1925, in Hendrickson, Missouri, and lived in Coolidge, 
Arizona, until he was 14 and the family moved to Kern County. He resided here 
most of his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, June; son, Michael Wallis of 
Corralitos; daughter, Sharon and husband, Steve Mettler of Bakersfield; and 
grandchildren, David Wallis of Watsonville, Tina Wallis of Santa Rosa, 
Michelle Wallis of Hanford, Christopher and wife, Vanessa Wallis of Seattle, 
and Matt and Chrissy Mettler of Bakersfield. 

Glen loved hunting, gunsmithing and shooting throughout his life. He 
particularly enjoyed deer hunting trips to Utah in the fall and shooting with 
his grandchildren. Upon retirement he enjoyed landscaping his and Junes new 
home. Glen was a mechanic and welder, eventually operating Wallis Engine 
Service in the Lakeview area southwest of Bakersfield.

Glen was proud of serving in the United States Navy during World War II. He 
had many great stories to tell about his time in the Navy. After completing 
basic training in early 1944 in Farragut, Idaho, he went to Spokane, 
Washington, for his one day of liberty. There, he met the love of his life, 
June Clark. They corresponded after he shipped out to the Pacific Theater, 
where he repaired submarines at Pearl Harbor. After the war was over, he 
returned stateside on delayed orders, and he and June were married December 1, 
1945. Glen was discharged in 1946, and he and June lived in Kern County nearly 
all of their married life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Glens name to the Building Fund 
at Cornerstone Church, 3331 Calloway Drive, 93312.

Visitation will be Friday evening 4-8 p.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary.
