Johnston Services: Thurs., Aug. 26, 2004, 11 a.m. Albert L. Johnston, 76, a longtime Cuyama Valley, CA resident, passed away while visiting his daughter and son-in-law, in Dillon, MT. Albert was born at the Johnston Ranch in the Cuyama Valley on August 28, 1927 to Lillie (Anderson) and Eugene Lamar Johnston Sr. He attended one room schools and was home schooled by his mother in the Valley and graduated from Maricopa High School in 1945. Albert left for active service in the Navy in 1945 and later attended Cal Poly, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Crop Science. He reenlisted in the Army, and attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, VA and served in Korea at the end of the conflict. In 1953 he married Lorraine Gerlich from Santa Maria and they had one child, Patti. Lorraine passed away in the Fall of 1972 and he married Jerri Bowen in 1974, Jerri passed away three years later. During Alberts life he was a wheat farmer, State Brand Inspector and served as an agricultural inspector for the State of California for many years. He retired in 1996. Alberts interests included helping ranchers in the Cuyama Valley along with hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Santa Maria Elks Lodge #1538, Taft Sportsman Club, and the Cuyama Valley Exchange for over 50 years. Albert is survived by his daughter, Patti Johnston and her husband, Tom Osen of Dillon, MT; brother, William P. Johnston and his wife, Alice of Reno, NV; Alberts companion, Pat Swan of New Cuyama, CA and her family; Ray and Terri Swan, Val and Tim Crabb and their families; nieces and nephews, Judith, Emery and Kelly, JoAnna, Gary, Janet, Lance and Tammy, and Trystin Johnston; caregivers, Frank and Laura Studer. Albert was preceded in death by his parents and his wives, Lorraine and Jerri; brother, Lamar Johnston; and sister- in-law, Isabelle Johnston. Memorial service will be Thursday, August 26, 2004, 11:00 a.m., at Santa Maria Elks Lodge #1538. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cuyama Valley Scholarship Foundation, in the care of Cuyama Valley Exchange club, P.O. Box 138, New Cuyama, CA 93254, or to a charity of your choice.
