Pastor Art Gafke of First United Methodist Church of Bakersfield will officiate 9:30 a.m. Tues., August 24. Fred was born November 20, 1919, in Albertville, Alabama. A member of the National Guard, he enlisted in the Army at the outbreak of WWII. Mr. Pierce came to Minter Field, outside of Bakersfield, through a military transfer with the Air Force. After the war, Fred was discharged in his home state of Alabama as a Staff Sergeant, and he moved straight back to Bakersfield. He loved this town. He went to work for Safeway Stores as a Meat Cutter. Then after ten years he bought County Fair Clothing in Lamont, retiring in 1983. He made some lasting friendships there. He loved his work. Survived by his wife of 49 years Kareen Pierce, son Brian Pierce of Lamont and daughter Nila Swann of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren whom he loved and enjoyed very much. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that Memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
