Lloyd was educated at Standard School, Kern County Union High School, Bakersfield College, San Jose State University and Stanford University. During his college years, he was a professional softball pitcher, a member of the first class inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame. He was also a world record holder for most hitless innings pitched in a row. He also played football and basketball at KCUHS and BC and was a three-year starter for San Jose State Football. Lloyd was a decorated Army Air Corps Captain and B-25 pilot flying in the South Pacific. He was also a pitcher for the all Army team. Lloyd was an educator at Richland School where he met Elinore, his wife of 33 years and mother of his three sons, Jeff, Richard and Doug. He also taught at Standard School. With his father, J.C. and brother, Ernest established J.C. Wattenbarger and Sons in 1946. Lloyd helped many contractors get started. With his handshake were a deal and a motto: A satisfied customer is our first consideration. Lloyd proudly served on the Standard School District Board of Trustees from 1954 to 1962. He was an original board member of the North Bakersfield Parks & Recreation. He was a supporter of many youth programs, teams and Kern County Fair projects as well as an Oildale Lion Club member. Lloyd had many passions during his lifetime. Gardening, fishing and hunting were a few. From Alaska to Mexico, no one could catch a fish like Lloyd. His neighbors and family were the beneficiaries of his green thumb. Lloyd was preceded in death by his son, Richard in 1955 and by his wife, Elinore, in 1975 and also by his parents and his brother, Jim. Those surviving him include his wife of 26 years, Marjory; his sons, Jeff and wife, Mary, Doug and wife, Ellie; grandchildren, Judd and wife, Aubree, Ben, Andy, Meggan and Abby; great-grandchildren, Rachel and Jackson; his brother, Ernest; stepchildren, James Allen and wife, Mary Ann and daughter, Lydia, Joyce Murphy Allen and friend, Jim and son, James Murphy.
