He passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long illness. We will all remember the total integrity he displayed in all matters personal or business and he will be greatly missed. Ronald was the third son born to Ferdinand Oro and Charlotte Barger in Detroit, MI. The family moved to Bakersfield in 1943. Ron attended military school in Los Angeles, Roosvelt, Emerson, Bakersfield High and Bakersfield College. Ron was very proud to be a Driller in the Bakersfield High football program. He made All Valley Guard 1952 and Most Inspirational Player 1954 Renegades. When offered a full scholarship to USC, he chose to stay in Bakersfield to raise his family with his wife, Lyda. Ron enjoyed coaching Jack Frost football, golf, playing handball and fishing. He had a passion for gourmet cooking, and his culinary skills have delighted us to this day. Ronald worked for the Richfield Oil Corporation from 1955 till 1963 in the drilling department. He worked on the last standard derrick and the first off- shore drilling rig. In 1963, Ron became a firefighter with the Bakersfield City Fire Department. Three of those years were spent in arson prevention. In 1980, he retired early on a work-related disability with the rank of Captain. He was very active in the Local Teamsters Union as a Business Representative. He moved to Shell Beach, CA, where he pursued his dream to be a commercial fisherman out of Port San Luis. His last wishes, to have his ashes placed offshore near his favorite fishing spot, will be honored. By his request, there will be no other services. Ronald was preceded in death by his father, Ferdinand Oro Barger I; mother, Charlotte Barger Montgomery; and brother Col. Ferdinand Oro Barger II. He is survived by his wife Audrey; son , Ronald Barger, Jr.; daughters, Rebecca Trimble and Charlotte Barger; three grandchildren, Brook Barger, Amy McCarthy and T.J. Trimble; and one great-grandson, Garrett Petris. Also, brother and wife Charles and JoAnn Barger of San Jose, CA; nephews Ferdinand Oro Barger III, Watson, Michael, and Stephen of South Carolina; niece and nephew Kathy Barger and Charles Barger, Jr., of San Jose, CA.
