Maxwell Services: Thurs., Sept. 2, 2-6 p.m. M.J. Maxwell, 75, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2004 with his beloved wife Lillian at his side. MJ died of complications resulting from surgery. He worked in the oil fields for over 40 years, 38 of those with Getty Oil Company. MJ will be fondly remembered as a firm and fair boss to hundreds of oilfield workers over many decades of service, and always strived to do whats right. He was a faithful member of the Bakersfield Elks Lodge since 1963, and awarded Elk of the Year for 1999-2000. MJ logged tens of thousands of miles driving around this great country with Lillian in their RV, traveling coast to coast and border to border. They shared these wonderful trips with their kids in the 1950s and then with their camper club throughout the rest of MJs life. Hell also be remembered as a rock-solid husband, father, father-in-law, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend with big hands and a big heart who could fix almost anything, mechanical or emotional. He was a great American, and a true patriot. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lillian; brother, Sammy Maxwell of Tehachapi; daughters, Judy Higgs and husband, Jay, Cheryl Taylor and husband, Dick; son, Murrell Maxwell and Lorita; 8 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren, all of Bakersfield. He was one of 9 brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 2, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., at the Kern Law Enforcement Association Hall, 3417 Pegasus Drive, (across from the Post Office) in Bakersfield, followed by A Celebration of Life.
