She had been bedridden for almost five years. Elvira was born on Aug. 20, 1913, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As a child she lived in Argentina and Spain. When she married, she moved to South Africa with her husband, Ralph Waldo Castleton. They lived there for 21 years and that’s where their three daughters were born. Elvira’s family emigrated to America in 1960 and settled in San Marino, where she lived until 1997 with her daughter. As a young woman, Elvira was fascinated by court proceedings, so she obtained the required credentials and did some courtroom transcribing in Argentina. In addition, she had an accounting degree that was put to good use in the businesses that she and her husband owned. Elvira had a beautiful voice and loved to sing; she loved music, especially opera. She had total faith in God and those she loved. Her fierce love of life and family was outstanding. She picked flowers from her garden and always had vases of fresh cut flowers in her house. She loved holiday get-togethers and prepared lots of good food with beautiful table settings. Elvira also loved dressing up for formal occasions and going to Las Vegas, dining out, theater and movies. She loved playing bridge, sometimes till 3 a.m. In her later years, she enjoyed crossword puzzles. Elvira is survived by her cherished children, Yvonne Walden, Virginia Robinson, Joany Woodsmall; her treasured grandchildren, Jeffrey Walker, Marina Trost; her precious great-grandchildren, Sydney, Jordyn and Caysey Walker and Kurtis and Mason Trost; and her sister in Argentina, Antonia Barreiro De Barrios. She will also be greatly missed by all her sons-in-law, Sam Walden, Prentiss Robinson and Dave Woodsmall, as well as her grandson-in-law, Eric Trost and granddaughter-in-law, Teresa Walker. A Catholic service was held on Aug. 19 at Forest Lawn’s Wee Kirk O’ the Heather in Glendale and she was buried next to her husband, whom she adored.
