Melba along with her beloved husband, Harold moved to Bakersfield from Phoenix, Arizona in 1961 and raised three sons, Jay and wife, Jan of Arroyo Grande, CA, Jeff and wife, Cindy of Miami, FL and John William AKA Little Bill, whereabouts unknown. Six grandchildren, Jason, Janelle (her favorite granddaughter) and her husband, Tim Pettengill, Taylor, Jordan, Matthew and Timothy; five great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Brittany, the twins, Kalvin and Kevin and Jeremy. She loved garage sales, swap meets, Las Vegas, taking care of others and cooking. Her joy in life was creating an excellent meal and watching her family and friends enjoy it. She was a dear and true friend to many Bakersfield residents and will be missed throughout Kern County. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Harold Wild Bill, in May, 1995. Her life was never the same after his death. Her family and friends know that she is happier now than she has been over the past 9 years because she has joined him for eternity and will never be alone again. Her sons send a heartfelt thank you for the wonderful staff at Emmanuel Convalescent Hospital and for the staff of Optimal Hospice who were there and so caring at the end of her long journey. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made in Melbas name to the Optimal Hospice Care Center, 4800 Stockdale Hwy., Suite 215, Bakersfield, CA 93309-2636.
