A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, September 10, 2004, at Greenlawn Cemetery, River Blvd. Honorary pallbearers include Joe Harikian, Dan Harikian, Michael Nicholas North, Tony Figueroa, Jerry West and Jay Busby. Waler, born in Georgia, came from Savannah to Bakersfield in 1947. That same year, he married Margaret B. Baca. Walter had served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was employed as a Senior Coin Technician by Pacific Telephone for 37 years. He was a member of the Retired Telephone Pioneers, American Legion Post 682, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1468, IOF Foresters and Eagle Aerie 93. Those surviving Walter include his wife, Margaret of Bakersfield; a son, Neal North of Frazier Park; a grandson, Michael Nicholas North of Atascadero and a brother, Richard North of Georgia.
