He suffered a thoracic aneurysm and suddenly went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 5th. He's completed his journey on earth and has accomplished what the rest of us are still trying to achieve worshiping, singing a perfect tenor and praising at Jesus feet! Curtis was born in Bakersfield on November 19, 1940, to Oscar and Ina Bergman, and worked in the agricultural industry for over 40 years raising a variety of crops ranging from cotton to nectarines. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents, and is survived by his loving wife, Carol and daughter, Brittany; his son, Jay and wife, Michelle; daughter, Cheryl Carey and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Sarah and Taylor; and sister, Nancy Kessler and husband, El; as well as his faithful four-legged sidekick, Pete. Curtis never met a stranger, touching the lives of everyone he knew. Whether it was hanging banners at church, singing in the choir, sharing the produce he grew, or hammering a nail for Carol, he did it with exceptional joy and laughter. Canoe Leader Curt always had a huge hug, a loving word, and an infectious smile for everyone he met. He was a source of strength as Brittany battled cancer and an inspiration to other ailing children as he mentored them and taught them to fish and ride horses. He served as a big teddy bear to anyone who was in need of a hug, and through good times and bad he was always Carols Rock of Gibraltar. Curtis will be missed like no other! Curtis enjoyed every bit of his journey, raising his kids and his crops, playing with his grandkids, riding his Harley, Agnes (named in honor of his second grade Sunday School teacher) with Carol behind him in black leathers, and most of all serving his Savior with a smile and a song! It was the destination, though, that Curtis life was all about, and he was committed to loving the Lord. Memorial contributions in Curtis name may be made to Laurelglen Bible Church, Missions Fund.
