Born in Pixley on October 10, 1925, Hutcherson attended Pixley Elementary school and Delano High School. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 to do his part in World War II. He spent most of his three years in the Navy at sea, and his tour of duty took him to Britain, New Zealand and India. While still in active service, he married his sweetheart, Carmen (Corkie) Heckman of Earlimart, on November 4, 1945. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Raised on a farm, Hutcherson tried his own hand at farming as a young adult. When times grew hard for farmers, he became determined to find another occupation to support his growing family. He went to work for the Edison Company in 1953 as an apprentice, but was soon climbing electrical poles and wearing the hardhat of a lineman. His subsequent jobs included serving as a crew foreman. The last position that Hutcherson held with Edison before retiring in 1987 was that of Coordinator. During many of his years with Edison, Hutcherson satisfied his old passion for agriculture by farming on the side. His other interests included a love of country music, and being a devoted parent. Much of his free time was spent supporting and encouraging the participation of his own children and other peoples children in 4-H activities. Hutcherson is survived by Corkie, his wife of almost 60 years; his four children, Terri Niccum, Jerry Hutcherson, Kristy Guillory, and Rick Hutcherson; two grandchildren, Nathan Guillory and Ted Hutcherson; four stepgrandchildren, Monika, Dewayne, Roger, and Reanna Laird; and two great- stepgrandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Rosalee Murray and Dulcie Shoemake, both of Bakersfield; and two brothers, Clyde Hutcherson of Covina and Bob Hutcherson of Tulare, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
