Whisler Services: Mon., Sept. 13, 1 p.m. Wendel J. Whisler, born July 2, 1922, and passed away at a local hospital September 8, 2004. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 13, 1:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Chapel with graveside to follow service. Pastor Mike Popovich of Olive Drive Church will officiate. Wendel was born in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming and lived there until the age of twelve when he moved with his family to Portland, Oregon. In 1942 Mr. Whisler joined the Army Air Corp and served in World War II ending up in Okinawa. While he was stationed at Gardner Field, in Taft, California he met his wife, Wilma, and was married March 18, 1945. They have been happily married for fifty-nine years. Wendel has been a resident of Bakersfield for 51 years. Wendel worked for Pacific Bell for 32 years and retired in 1979. Wendel was a member of The Olive Drive Church, The Telephone Pioneers, The Central Valley Amateur Radio Club, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #93, and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1468. Wendel is survived by his wife, Wilma; son, Charles and daughter-in-law, Janalee; three grandchildren, Tim Whisler, David Whisler and wife, Stephanie, Alison Whisler Harp and husband, Jason; as well as four great-grandchildren, Ian, Emily, and Sidney Harp and Eli Whisler. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday 1-5 p.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wendels honor to the American Cancer Society.
