Visitation for Lionel Lewis Fischer will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 
Niles St.) on Sunday evening, September 12, 2004 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. 
Funeral services will be held in the Basham Funeral Care Chapel on Monday 
morning, September 13, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at San Joaquin 
National Cemetery in Gustine, California. 

Lionel Fischer, son of Viola Fletcher and John David Fischer, departed this 
life on Friday, September 3, 2004, with his family by his side. He was born in 
New Orleans, Louisiana on August 15, 1954. He moved to Los Angeles, California 
in July of 1962. After graduation from Centennial High School, he enlisted in 
the United States Army and later he also served our country in the United 
States Marine Corps. Lionel moved to Bakersfield, California in 1983 with his 
mother and stepfather, Willard Hurst. He established a close father-son bond 
with his stepfather. He worked with his father as a painter and construction 
worker.

He met Marilyn Barnes years later and they were married on June 25, 1995. His 
devoted wife remained at his bedside, along with his mother, until his time of 
death.

Lionel leaves behind his wife, Marilyn; mother, Viola Fischer; stepfather, 
Willard Hurst; sisters, Eunice Fowler and Mary Cotton; brother, Herman 
Goodman; 4 stepchildren; 4 stepgrandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, 
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. For additional service or floral
