His family relocated in Glendale, California when Douglas was nine years old. He received his education in Glendale, CA and University of Nevada in Reno. During WWII he served with the 101st General Hospital as a supply sergeant in Europe. In 1946 he started a career as a highway engineer with the Department of Transportation, now know as Cal Trans. He was a resident Engineer on several highway improvement projects in Kern and Tulare counties. His work headquarter was in Bakersfield until his retirement on 12/19/1972. He enjoyed traveling and sightseeing by car and photography. In their travels, they visited 49 of the 50 United States and all of the Canadian border provinces. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Hevron Howell; nieces, Suzanne Ostermann of Los Angeles, CA and Linda Otis of Montrose, CA; nephew James Douglas Otis of Grand Junction, CO; numerous members of the Hevron family and the very special surviving members of the Fred Lizalde Family Vivian, Nick and Vanessa. Douglas was a much loved and respected person and will be deeply missed by many. At his request, there will be no services. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
