Daniel Lee Archuleta, 35, died doing what he loved going on a code run for the Kern County Sheriffs Department. Deputy Archuleta went to rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday afternoon, September 12, 2004. Dan was the perfect Christmas gift for his parents, Donald and Linda Archuleta, when he entered the world on Christmas Day, 1968, in Huntington Beach, CA. He grew up in Seal Beach and always wanted to be a police officer. His parents recall him and his little brother, Matthew, being transfixed by the TV cop shows of the day and running around the house with their toy radios saying, 1-Adam-12 in very official voices. Dan never met a stranger. He brought joy into every room her entered. According to his family, that joy came from the Holy Spirit who gave him a zest for life, which he lived to the fullest. Although they lived in Bakersfield for only two years Dan and his wife, Laura, touched many hearts and lives. The couple taught Sunday school and Awana Cubbies at Riverlakes Community Church. According to Laura her job was to teach and Dans was to play and be silly with the kids. And being silly, happy and playful were Dans gifts. But being with his family was his passion. Everyday he and the girls went to the mailbox, the girls in their riding their toys and Dad leading the way. It was a treasured ritual. Dan was never a hurry to get through a meal or an activity. It took him hours to eat or bathe his girls because he savored every moment he had on earth. Even though he was here for 35 years, he spent more time doing the things that everybody does than most people who live twice as long. Dan leaves his wife, Laura, and two daughters, Victoria Rose, 5, and Isabella Rose, 3. The girls share the same middle name because their Dad wanted to give them something that would bind them together even as they grew up and took their husbands names. Also left to grieve, but honor his life and love, are his parents, Don & Linda; brother & best friend, Matt and wife Jennifer & nephews Zachary, 4, and Cameron, 2; grandmother & step-grandfather, June and Harold Perdue. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 17 at 1:00; Riverlakes Community Church, 4301 Calloway (at Hageman), followed by a ceremonial service by the Sheriffs Department at Hillcrest Cemeterys Hill of Valor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Daniel L. Archuleta benevolent fund to benefit Dans daughters, at any local branch of Washington Mutual Bank.
