He left this life on September 13, 2004 to be reunited with his brother Ronnie and his Mom and Dad. He is survived by his wife Lynda of 34 years, daughter Heather, sister Penny and her husband Ray Correra, their children Nina and Louis Gonzalez, mother-in- law Gwen Bonnivier, sister-in-law Sally and her husband Rick Slayton, their children Jessica, Jed and wife Christy, Ryan and wife Lean, Mike and wife Brooke, three great nieces and two great nephews. Gary graduated from North High School, Bakersfield College, and Cal State University Bakersfield, where he received his Masters Degree in Public Administration. While completing his education, he was employed by Safeway Stores. He then started his career with the County of Kern as a Group Supervisor I in 1973, moving up to a Probation Officer, Assistant Director, and finished his career as Director of Juvenile Hall in 2002. A few of Garys career accomplishments were; Regional Vice President-California Probation and Correctional Association, Chairman of Central Region, California Association Institution Administrators, State President-California Association Probation Institution Administrators, Board of Directors-Kern County Healthy Start Collaborative, and Project Manager for the new Treatment Facility for Kern County. Gary served on the Board of Directors for Kern Federal Credit Union in 1993. Gary was involved for many years with the N.H.S. Booster Club and Bakersfield College Alumni Association. He was inducted into the Bakersfield College Alumni Association Hall of Fame in 1991. Gary looked forward to retirement as he loved hunting, fishing, and time with friends. Other loves of Garys were pouring cement and building patios and decks in his spare time. He was a master of cooking and barbequing for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to N.H.S. Athletic Booster Club or Bakersfield College Alumni Association. Services will be held at Calvary Bible Church, 48 Manor Dr. on Friday, September 17 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16 at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd. 12:00 9:00 p.m. Greenlawn Mortuary Funeral Directors Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
