Pastor Mike Kotrla of the Shafter Congregational Church will officiate at the service. Don passed away on September 16, 2004, after a 3 year battle with cancer; he fought a valiant fight and never let the cancer defeat him. He was born in Oklahoma and moved to Wasco in 1949, and to Shafter in 1969. He married Betty Boyd in Bakersfield on March 29, 1956; and the couple just missed their 50th Anniversary by about 11/2 years. Don and Betty had a very loving marriage, and they enjoyed each others company and it was very unusual to see one without the other. Don worked for CPCSD (California Planting & Cotton Seed Distributing) for 40 years. Don loved his children and grandchildren dearly and was a wonderful Papa. He supported all of their activities; never missing a game or function. He believed in a close-knit family; he established an annual Family Week vacation in Morro Bay, and all relatives were invited to share in the week. He loved camping in his RV and went camping as often as possible; his favorite vacation spot was Disneyland with the grandkids. Don was also a good handy-man for anyone that needed his help. Don is survived by his loving wife, Betty; daughters, Cindy and Husband, Jeff Graves and their children, Ryan and Heather of Shafter, Krystal and husband, Bobby Stewart and their daughter, Taylor of Bakersfield; brothers, Willis and J.C. Crook of Wasco and Harold Crook of Rosamond; sister, Lorene Isham of Delano. Don was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. He was admired by all who knew him.
