His family moved to Ventura Ca. in 1944 where he attended Ventura high School. In 1950 he went to serve his country in the U.S. Armys 40th Infantry Division, he served in Korea as an Army field cook. Upon leaving the service he started his oilfield career in Ventura Ca. in 1953. he worked for various companies offshore. In 1965 he transferred to Getty Oil Co. Kern River Field. He continued his career in Kern County as a steam generator operator where he became known as the Steam Sheriff AKA (Maytag the Agitator). He retired in 1990 after 37 years of service. Upon retirement he showcased his new hobby of woodwork, where he and his wife Betty enjoyed participating in craft shows often accompanied by their grandson Chris. Don was a practical joker, fun loving, and a people person. He loved the Lord, his family and his puppies. He is proceeded in death by his mother Nora, and father Floyd Fain. Brother Cecil, daughters, Cindy, Lynette and Linda and son Mark. He is survived by his loving wife Betty, twin brother Douglas and wife Sherrie of Port Hueneme, James and wife Connie of Ventura, sisters Melba of Buna Texas, Justine of Lancaster, Marcia and husband Paul of Oak Glen, Daughters Kris of Bakersfield, Denise and husband Gary of Upton, Lori and husband John, son Keith and wife Lori of Bakersfield. 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A celebration honoring Dons life will be held Tuesday September 21, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. in Calvary Bible Church Chapel, 48 Manor Dr. Family and friends are invited for a farewell viewing at Mission Family Mortuary, 531 California Ave. 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. today and Monday. The Fain family wishes to thank Odyssey Hospice and especial Aundra DeWitt for that special tender care, All are Angels to us. We feel Don would like for his friends to know that.
