He graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1953, and on April 2, 1955 he married Joyce Denton and they had six children together. John is preceded in death by his sons, Johnnie and Randy Petris; father, John Petris and brother, David Petris. Survivors are his wife of 49 years, Joyce Petris; daughter, Cynthia Petris; son, Michael Petris; son, Terry Petris and wife, Lori; daughter, Penny Petris-Hall; 14 grandchildren; 8 great- grandchildren; mother, Mary Reed; loving sister and brother-in-law, Norma and John Lemucchi; loving brother, Alvin Petris and sister, Geraldine Petris; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He will be dearly missed by his grandson, Shelby, with whom he had a very caring and special relationship. John loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly and was a caring and loving Papa. He enjoyed spending time at home piddling around in his yard and garage. He also had a love for his classic cars and racecars. John was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. He was admired and loved by all that knew him. John served on the Board of the North Bakersfield Recreation Department for years, member of the Bakersfield Country Club, member of the Elks and honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. His various occupations have included: John Petris Builders, Wyatts Mfg. Co., Woodys Liquor, Pounds Market, Bakersfield Speedway and Terry Petris Auto Sales. A Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Philips with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Victor Del Toro, Mike Hawkesworth, Steve Kahanic, John Lemucchi, Jr., Dennis Linnell and Jose Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy English, Red Gentry, Bill Houser and Lyncle Massie. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Hoffmann Hospice who filled Johns last days with trust and tender loving care.
