A memorial service will follow at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church at 11 a.m. Pastor Pat Coyle of the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church will officiate at the service. Arlene was born in Hepburn, Saskatchewan, Canada to Frederick and Nettie Strauss where she was raised and attended local schools. She earned her Nursing Degree while living in Canada; and moved to Shafter in 1953. She married Robert Peters on September 15, 1956. Arlene worked at Mercy Hospital, and at Dr. Saslows office and eventually began a long career at Shafter Convalescent Hospital from 1970 until her retirement in 1996; although she continued to work there on a part-time basis until her death. Arlene loved playing the piano and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the choir, she was also active in Shafters Community Bible Study. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Nettie; her brothers, Ervin and Alvin Strauss. She is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Clark and wife, Jana of Bakersfield; daughter, Kendra Penner and husband, Skip of Shafter; brothers, Gilbert Strauss and wife, Olga and Dennis Strauss and wife, Judy all of Canada; sister, Evelyn Schmidt of Fresno; grandchildren, Katelyn and Korey, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
