(Sandall) Goldwater July 8, 1946 - September 18, 2004 Candace passed away peacefully at home on Saturday following a 12-year battle with cancer. She was born in Bakersfield, the first child of Walter Sandy and Lois Sandall, attended local schools and graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1964. She received her B.A. in Fine Arts from California State University, Northridge in 1969. That year she married her best friend, soulmate and love of her life, Stephen Goldwater, and they enjoyed over 35 years of happiness together. They truly were blessed with the pride of their life together, two children, Justine, 26, and Erin, 20. In 1990 the family returned to Bakersfield from Northridge and Stephen joined his familys business, the Emporium Western Store. Candace applied her artistic talents in many ways over the years, including photography, weaving, ceramics, knitting, quilting and computer graphics. She volunteered her talents to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Kern County in any way requested, but her CASA passion was the annual Murder Mystery fundraiser, and for the past four years she created the props and co- wrote the story and character descriptions. An advocate of education and reading in particular, she volunteered at Stockdale Elementary School and Actis Jr. High. Her other interests included travel, cooking, gardening, reading, being a soccer mom and being at the beach. She was a friend of Bill W. for over 10 years. Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Stephen; son, Justin of Austin, TX; daughter, Erin of Berkeley; brothers, Marc Sandall of Bakersfield and Chris Sandall of San Diego; sister-in-law, Carol (Goldwater) and her husband, Wilbur Durst of Bakersfield; niece, Stacy (Durst) and her husband, Richard Kupfer and their two daughters, Allison and Rachel of Santa Clarita; and many friends who will never forget her loving, caring, giving nature or the example of strength and dignity she set during her illness. In her quiet, gentle way she touched a tremendous number of people over the years. There will be a Celebration of Life for Candace on Sunday, September 26, 2004, at 12 noon at the Goldwater home, 7913 Calle Torcido, Bakersfield. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude for the loving care given by the following and their staffs: Dr. Alan Cartmell and the chemo nurses at CBCC; Dr. Donald Loos; Dr. John Byfield; and Optimal Home Health Care, especially our angel of a nurse, Linda Sheffel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to CASA of Kern County, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
