Rhea May 11, 1922 Sept. 21, 2004 Graveside services will be held Friday, September 24, at 10:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road. Lydia was born May 11, 1922 in Nataliendorf, Ukraine. She married Abraham Lincoln 'Link' Rhea in 1944. His military career in the Army brought him to Bakersfield in 1964. In her youth, Lydia was a nurse and translator in Russia and Germany and an Elementary School Teacher in Russia. After her marriage, she served as a hostess and cashier at the Officers Club in Fort Knox. In Bakersfield, she worked in marketing research and for the Kern County and National Census Bureaus. She attended Bakersfield College where she received her AA and worked as a professors assistant and private tutor. She continued her education at Cal-State and never lost her desire for knowledge. Lydia loved cats and tending her rose and vegetable gardens. She was an active member of the 60+ Club and Elder College at CSUB, Surviving Mates, and various senior citizens organizations. She also loved playing games with her family and spending time with friends. Lydia was predeceased by her husband, Link, and her parents, Wilhelm and Martha Huebscher. Lydia is survived by her brother, Henry Benz; her daughter, Irene Hansen and her husband, Vaughn; her granddaughter, Deena Letlow and her husband, Brian; and her cats Trouble, Princess, and Bubba.
