John W. Bitzer, M.D.

Funeral services will be held in the First United Methodist Church on the 
corner of Seventh & North streets, Taft, on Monday September 27, 2004 at 1:00 
pm for longtime Taft physician John W. Bitzer, M.D. Pastors Bruce McClellen 
and Mike Harrell will officiate and burial will follow in the West Side 
District Cemetery. 

Dr. Bitzer was born in Wabash County, Indiana on May 27, 1929 and passed away 
at his residence on September 24, 2004. He proudly served his country as a 
member of the United States Air Force. He had practiced medicine in Taft from 
1959 to 2001. Dr. Bitzer was a member of the First United Methodist Church, 
the California Medical Society and was the team doctor at Taft Union High 
School for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and 
Velma, and his sister, Susan Cline. His survivors include his wife, Harriette 
Bitzer; his children and their spouses, Lana and Lee Miller, their five 
children and six grandchildren; Renee and Greg Hill, their two children, 
Scarlett and Lon Bitzer , M.D., their five children; Desiree and Don Young and 
their one child, Rashell and Wassim Kaddure and their three children; his 
brothers, George Bitzer and Robert Bitzer; and his sister, Lena Pelio. Friends 
are invited to pay their respects on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and 
again on Monday 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
