Betty Carol Thorpe
Services: Sept. 28, 10 a.m.

Services will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., in Greenlawn 
Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield for Betty Carol Thorpe, 62, of 
Bakesfield, CA who passed away September 21, 2004 at her home. Pastor Gary 
Bashor will officiate and interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. 

Mrs. Thorpe was born November 23, 1941 in Canton, Texas and had been a 
resident of Kern County for 39 years. She worked for the United States Postal 
Service for ten years as a Mail Sorter. She loved reading romance novels and 
murder mysteries, and enjoyed watching movies at home. She studied and 
attended workshops on Native American cultures and spirituality. In April 
2004, Betty fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling overseas when she had 
the opportunity to visit her daughters family in Doha, Qatar.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Edward Michael Thorpe 
and a brother, William Donald Chilton. Survivors include her son, Michael Todd 
Thorpe and his wife, Cathi; daughters, Janeen Marie Rodriguez and her husband, 
Mark of Bakersfield, and Lizbeth Christine Owens and her husband, Brian of 
Doha, Qatar; sisters, Sharon Harper and her husband, Ron of White House, 
Tennessee and Lahoma Chilton of Dallas, Texas; her six grandchildren, 
Christopher, Mick, Miranda, Devon, Phillip and Stuart.

Visitation will begin today at 12:00 noon at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River 
Blvd.
