LaVerne was escorted through the veil at 7:15 p.m. on September 25, 2004. Graveside services will be Thursday, September 30, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary. Viewing will be Wednesday, September 29, 2004 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, September 30, 2004 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. LaVerne spent her school years in San Francisco and Sacramento where she was active in Drama. She also sang on the radio as a member of the Mickey Mouse Club before she graduated from Sacramento High School in 1934. She married James Morton Munn in 1940 and they moved to Bakersfield in 1942. After their divorce in 1957, she began working at Fedway, and then moved to Montgomery Wards and Mervyns. She enjoyed the public and was well liked by her fellow employees. After her retirement, she sang with Sweet Adelines for 5 years. LaVerne was an active member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, William Duan and Betty Burns of Graeagle; her daughter, Janice Ward of Newport Beach; her son and daughter- in-law, Steven and Jeannie Munn of Bakersfield; grandchildren, Tina and John Gonzales of Bakersfield and Eric and Christy Hanson of Laguna Beach, along with great-grandchildren, Andrew and Cameron Hanson.
