Belluomini Oct. 27, 1919 Sept. 25, 2004 The last surviving child of a pioneer Bakersfield Italian family, Bill Belluomini was born to Joseph and Ida Belluomini, attended St. Francis School, Kern County Union High School (Class of 1937) and Bakersfield Junior College (Class of 1939). He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in World War II. When his plane was shot down over France, he parachuted behind enemy lines. For nine months, with the help of the French Underground, he and his crew members hid in the attic of the local school house, which was used during the day as the local German Army headquarters. After D-Day, the crew was able to rejoin the Allied forces. Bill also served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his return from the wars, he worked in the family businesses, City Mercantile and Belluomini Milling Corporation. He also operated a cattle ranch in Cima, California, and farmed in Greenfield and New Cuyama. He studied law and accounting at night and became an accountant for several businesses, including Newell Insurance and Bear Mountain Winery. He married Avis Allen, and had three children. He joins his parents, Joe and Ida Banducci Belluomini; his sister, Josephine Rafetto; and his brother, Elmer Belluomini. He leaves behind his children to remember him, Teresa Henkel of El Cajon, Helene of San Francisco and Allen of Bakersfield. There were no services, at his request. Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glint on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle Autumn rain. When you wake in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft starlight at night. Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there, I did not die! Mary E. Frye, 1932 Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased.
