I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun, of happy memories that I leave when life is done. Gene served in the U.S. Air Force for 2 years and as a Postmaster of Shafter for 33 years. Gene was active in the Shafter community, serving as President of the Shafter Kiwanis and the Shafter Chamber of Commerce as well as Commander of the American Legion. He was also a life long member of the Shafter Congressional Church. Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wilma Guenther, 2 daughters, Dr. Jean Fuller and her husband, Russell and Judy Butler and his grandson, Scott Butler. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Genes memory to either the Optimal Hospice Foundation or the Florence R. Wheeler Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital.
