She was born the first daughter of Ray and Kate Bristol on March 13, 1909 in Antioch, CA. She graduated from KCUHS (BHS), BC, and San Jose State College. In 1935 she married her high school sweetheart, Robb Walt. They lived in Bakersfield their entire 63 years of marriage. They both taught school, Robb at BHS and Bakersfield Junior College and Virginia at Fruitvale and Roosevelt. She finished her teaching career as a resource teacher for the Bakersfield City Schools until her retirement in the 1970s. Virginia was known as a woman of simple elegance, with a great appreciation of beauty, color and design especially that exhibited through Gods creation. The first few years of her marriage she had an art store with her good friend, Lucille Hollinger. They sold weavings and ceramics made in a shop by the Walt home in Casa Loma. Virginia also loved to garden. She taught flower arranging, judged flower shows and provided beautiful arrangements for the First Christian Church for many years. Virginia was very involved with her church and bible studies and loved the Lord. After retiring, she spent many hours painting at her studio with Betty Hay. Throughout her life, Virginia shared her talents with her students, her family and her church. She never lost her elegance, her gracious ways of dealing with those around her, her love for her family or her love for the Lord. She is survived by her children, Robb and Judy, their spouses, Becky and Connor Jameson and her one sister, Jackie Christenson. She has 4 grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Friday, October 15th at 2 p.m. in Bakersfield and a memorial service will be held at San Joaquin Gardens in Fresno on Saturday, October 16th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Virginia may be sent to: First Christian Church, 1660 S Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301.
