Maurice Joseph Caya
March 27, 1925 October 5, 2004

Maurice Caya, 79, passed away in Bakersfield, CA on Sunday, October 3, 2004, 
following a brief illness. He grew up in Niagara Falls, NY, enlisting in the 
Sea Bees when he was 17 years old. He was honorably discharged after nine 
years of service. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Mary Lee Morgan-Caya, and 
brother, Francis Caya. Survivors include two brothers, Eugene Caya and Henry 
Caya of New York; six children: sons, Wayne Caya of Mathews, NC, Mark Caya of 
Bakersfield; daughters, Carol Scozzafava of San Antonio, TX, Nancy Ansteth of 
Las Vegas, NV, Margaret Thomas of Venton, VA and Deborah LaShomb of North 
Tonawanda, NY; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and 
nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 11, 2004, at St. Francis 
Catholic Church, 900 H Street in Bakersfield.
