Muir Sr., 89, who passed away peacefully after a brief illness. John was born in Bakersfield on January 3, 1915 to John Church Muir and Bly Scribner Muir. John was proud to be a member of one of Bakersfields early pioneering families. His mother, Bly was born in Bakersfield in 1894. The Scribner family played a large role in the early history and development of Bakersfield, owning and operating the Scribner Opera House and the Scribner Water Tower (destroyed in the 1952 earthquake), among many other downtown interests. John attended local schools, graduating from Kern Union High School in 1933. He went on to graduate from Berkeley University with a degree in Engineering. John was a retired petroleum engineer. John was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Muir in 2000. He is survived by his four children, Jacqueline Cavin, John A. Muir, Jr., Carolyn Muir, Kathleen Evarts and her husband, Charles; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Snook; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lee & Bill Steele; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thank you to Carol Hatton, Continueum Senior Care Management, Nurse Judith and the wonderful staff at Memorial Hospitals 6th Floor, Pam and Anne at Hoffman Hospice, who made his last days comfortable and Kaiser Permanente for their caring staff.
