Chaplin. She attended school in Bakersfield and obtained a degree from Bakersfield Business School following her high school graduation. She worked for a Title Company in Bakersfield for two years before marrying Ed Curtis, October 4, 1936. In 1941 Ed and Mary moved their family to Hanford when Ed was hired to work for Swift & Company. Mary Curtis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. All who knew her loved her. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Hanford, where she sang in the choir, served as president of the womens society and volunteered in the church office. She was a soloist at Peoples Funeral Home at one time, and was an honorary member of the Nineteenth Century Round Table. For the past 7 years she has lived in Bakersfield. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ed Curtis. She is survived by her son, Ed Curtis, Jr. of Bakersfield and her daughter, Carolyn Billerbeck and her husband George of Lemoore. Grandchildren are: Cathy Everson and her husband Greg of Burlingame, Dana DiVerde and her husband Dan of Mountain View, Andy Curtis and his wife Kathy of Pismo Beach, John Billerbeck of Selma, David Billerbeck of Fresno, Heidi Felger and her husband Forrest of Fresno, and seven great-grandchildren. Mary died peacefully of natural causes. Donations may be sent to the charity of your choice. Graveside services will be conducted on October 18 at 11:30 a.m., at The Grangeville Cemetery, 10428 14th Avenue, Armona, CA. A memorial service will also be held at Rosewood Retirement Community, Bakersfield, on October 22 at 11:00 a.m. Additional Comments: Volunteer submission - No relation to deceased. *posted in October 13, 2004 issue.
