A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m. at th First United Methodist Church on Stockdale Highway. Bruce was married for 58 happy years to Connie Ruth McFarland and had three children, Judy, Mike and Jim. Connie passed away October 11, 2000. Bruce was a WWII veteran serving in the Air Force as a B-24 navigator. He was shot down over Italy and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal for service to his country. A 45-year resident of Bakersfield, Bruce owned and operated Kern Tire Service and later was Sales Manager of the furniture division of Valley Office Supply, retiring in 1983. Active in community service, he served on the Board of the Salvation Army, Kiwanis, receiving the Kiwanian of the Year in 1967, Toastmasters and worked with the homeless shelter. He also belonged to SIRS and Missing Links. Bruce loved his golf always looking forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays with his buddies. He also loved jazz, dancing, bridge and mostly travel. He lived life to its fullest. Bruce and Ginny Chambers McFarland were blessed with love a second time and were married August 9, 2002. They continued to enjoy traveling and dancing and had many plans for 2005. Bruce is survived by his wife, Ginny; his daughter, Judy Smith and husband, Sam of Los Angeles; son, Mike and wife, Nancy of San Diego and son, Jim and wife, Amanda of Portland. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Stacey, Steve, Ryan, Kate, Aaron and Adam and 4 great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Carson, Paige and Allison.
