Dr. Milton Woolsey will officiate. Mr. Johns was born on February 22, 1933, to Carl and Opal Johns, in Glenbar, Arizona and resided in Kern County for 55 years. He graduated at the age of 17 from Shafter High School and attended USC from 1950-1955 where he earned a BA degree. Upon graduation from USC, Jerry returned to Kern County to farm with his father and brothers as Carl Johns & Sons, and Four J Cattle Co. In 1972, Jerry moved to Orange County where he worked for the Irvine Co. He returned to the Kern County area in 1980 and worked for Tenneco Land Co. and Dole Fresh Fruits & Vegetables. Jerry was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #1761 in Delano. He enjoyed track and field events as well as football. He was very passionate about his USC Trojan Football team. Jerry is survived by his wife, Arlene Johns; sons, Mike Johns, Steve Johns and wife, Becky, Brian Johns and Scott Stephens and wife, Kindra; grandchildren, Jamie, Shannon, Brian Jr., Logan and Seth; brothers, Lamel Johns and wife, Boots, Derrold Johns and Larry Johns and wife, Jan. He was preceded in death by brother, Harry Johns and sister-in-law, Ginger Johns. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry Johns name to Optimal Hospice, 4800 Stockdale Hwy. #215, Bakersfield, CA 93309-2636 or American Lung Association of Kern County, 306 Chester Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93301.
